text

The Kansas Public Employees Retirement System’s Board of Trustees has named Alan Conroy as KPERS’ new Executive Director. Conroy will be responsible to the Board for all aspects of KPERS’ daily operations.

Conroy currently serves as director of the Kansas Legislative Research Department, the non-partisan research and fiscal agency for the Kansas Legislature. He has been with Legislative Research in positions of increasing responsibility since 1983. Earlier in his career, he worked for the Division of Budget in the Kansas Department of Administration.

Conroy has over 30 years of experience in state government and fiscal analysis in both the legislative and executive branches. He served as an ex-officio member of the recent KPERS Study Commission and has provided staff support for the Legislature’s Joint Committee on Pensions, Investments and Benefits over the last 20 years, the legislative committee charged with on-going KPERS oversight.

He received a Master of Arts degree in political science with an emphasis in public administration from Wichita State University and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Dakota.

Conroy is expected to assume his new position February 13. He replaces Glenn Deck who retired September 2011 after 36 years of public service, ten of those years with KPERS.

KPERS, through a staff of 85 individuals, provides disability, retirement and death benefits offered by 1,500 public employers, including the State of Kansas, all counties and school districts, as well as most municipalities. KPERS currently has 279,000 members.
