KPERS is now offering Spouse coverage as part of Optional Group Life Insurance.
During open enrollment, employees can enroll for guaranteed coverage for both themselves and their spouses.
Coverage effective May 1
Spouses are eligible for $10,000 or $25,000 of guaranteed coverage without answering any health questions. $50,000 and $100,000 amounts are also available with proof of good health.
Employees are eligible for up to $25,000 of guaranteed coverage (in $5,000 increments subject to $250,000 plan max) without answering any health questions. Amounts over $25,000 during open enrollment require proof of good health.
Members previously declined coverage are not eligible for the guaranteed coverage offer.
Members cannot cover a spouse if the spouse is an active member of KPERS, KP&F or Kansas Board of Regents Mandatory Retirement Plan.
Communication Materials for Members
What about KP&F
KP&F members need to have OGLI coverage on themselves to be eligible for spouse coverage.
Spouse coverage is a rider on existing coverage. KPERS members automatically have Basic Group LIfe Insurance and that makes them eligible. KP&F members don't have Basic coverage.
Other employer resources
We’ve updated the OGLI section with new employee, family status change and coverage-at-a-glance information that will start May 1 when new coverage from open enrollment becomes effective.
