Moratorium on Death and Disability Contributions - Update

Governor Sebelius has signed into law Senate Bill 219 that establishes a nine-month moratorium on state and local employer contributions to the KPERS Death and Disability Plan. The nine-month moratorium began on March 1, 2009, and ends on November 30, 2009. Please note that this moratorium on contributions does not change any benefits that KPERS members have.

KPERS employers should not remit the 1.0 percent insurance portion of the employer contribution rate for payroll dates March 1, 2009  through November 30, 2009. For this purpose,  “payroll dates” means the date employees are actually paid. Some may call it the payroll warrant date.

KPERS will be providing certified employer contribution rates for calendar year 2010 in May.
