Legislature Passes $300 One-Time
Benefit Payment

text

The Legislature has passed a $300 one-time benefit payment for some benefit recipients. HB 2390, which authorizes the payment, will now be forwarded to the Governor for her consideration, along with the Omnibus appropriations bill, which contains funding for the payment. In order for the benefit payment to be authorized, both bills require approval of the Governor to become law.

Payment conditions and timing

  • The $300 payment is funded through the new expanded gaming revenues. As a result, the payment’s funding is contingent on the upcoming Kansas Supreme Court decision on the constitutionality of the Expanded Lottery Act and receipt of adequate expanded gaming revenues.
  • If there is a favorable Supreme Court decision and there is adequate expanded gaming revenue, the one-time $300 payment would be paid on or after October 1, 2008.

Eligibility

  • Retirees who retired on or before July 1, 1998, and have 10 or more years of service credit,
    and their joint survivors.
  • Disability recipients who began receiving disability benefits on or before July 1, 1998.

KPERS will provide updates on this website as further information becomes available about whether the payment’s authorizing legislation is signed by the Governor, as well as the effect of the court decision and expanded gaming revenue on implementation of the payment.
