What Are Your KPERS Benefits?

Throughout your career, you contribute a percentage of your pay to the Retirement System. Your employer also contributes into the System on your behalf. You automatically earn service credit for the years you work in a covered position. After ten years of service, you are guaranteed a monthly retirement benefit for the rest of your life. This is called "vesting" your benefit. If you leave before retirement, you can take your contributions plus interest, but not employer contributions.

In addition to retirement benefits, KPERS also provides life insurance, long-term disability and death benefits while you are working.
